Special Insurance Issues for Mobilehome Owners

  • Trip Coverage - A special endorsement available to protect your home while it is being moved.

  • Wildfire - Many Mobilehomes are located in rural areas which are prone to grass or brush wildfires. Be sure you home and other structures have a buffer of cleared land around them. Metal foundation skirting can help keep a grass fire from spreading under the home.  Also, mowing high grass and reducing other fuel sources on your property is a good safeguard. See essay: Wildfires!

  • Inadequate Coverage - Often, a mobilehomes is initially insured to cover the bank financing but the insurance contract has very limited coverage for many other risks. Be sure your policy includes adequate coverage for Liability, Loss of Use, Secondary Structures and Contents. The home itself may also have too low a coverage limit if destroyed.

  • Secondary Structures - Often, a manufactured home is accompanied by several detached secondary structures - workshops, carports and garages, etc. Is your coverage for these important buildings adequate?

  • Attached Decks & Porches - Often, a mobilehome is accompanied by attached decks. This increases the amount of coverage needed to adequately protect your total home investment.
