Special Issues for Commercial Auto Insurance
Combined Single Limit - A single amount of auto liability insurance protection for your business. It has the advantage of more flexible protection than the "split" limits offered on most personal auto insurance policies.
Installed Equipment - Some business jobs require special equipment installed on your commercial vehicle. This can add substantially to the value of the work truck. Be sure that your insurance policy is including this additional risk.
Insurance Certificates - Jobsites may require that your business prove insurance coverage. A commercial insurance policy can provide this proof with a Certificate of Insurance that will show your limits and scope of coverage and the insurance company.
Employees as Drivers - Your business is at risk anytime your commercial vehicles are operated. A motor vehicle record (MVR) that lists any violations for the prospective driver is a basic part of a driver screening process. Larger vehicles and specialized vehicles often require a driver with a Commercial Driver's license. A business owner is also at risk for injuries of drivers in their employment and having a Worker's Compensation policy can be important protection. See also essay: Why Work Comp?
State Filing Requirement - Large business vehicles (over 26,000 gross vehicle weight) and other specialized vehicles like tow trucks are regulated by the Texas State Department of Transportation and have specific requirements for insurance. TXDot filing information and application can be found at their website - http://www.dot.state.tx.us
